    2020 KM Sharks Registration

Here we go! The KM Sharks season will consist of practices Monday through Friday at Mounts Bay Pool. Practices begin Monday, June 22 and go through Friday, August 7. The schedule is as follows:

    • 8:15-9:15-ages 13 and over
    • 9:15-10:15-ages 11-12
    • 10:15-11:00-ages 9-10
    • 11:00-11:45-ages 8 and under

    Registration and Practices
We are so excited to get the kids in the pool! KCSA is requesting all swimmers who use the facility to sign a waiver, which can be found at https://www.kingsmillcommunity.org/residential-information-forms/ under release of liability. If you haven’t already signed and submitted one, please do so. You must have a form completed before using the pool. Your child can not practice until all paperwork is submitted. The coaches and lifeguards will be following Phase 2 guidelines as outlined in Executive Order 65 (https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/environmental-health/phase-1-considerations-for-aquatic-facilities/). For all NEW (to the KM Sharks) 8 and under swimmers, we are requiring them to complete a swim test before registering. Since we have a shortened season and coaches are unable to provide “hands-on” instruction, your child must be able to swim unassisted one pool length (25 meters). Swim evaluations will take place Friday, June 19. We believe we've reached out to most of these families. If you haven’t received an email with the signup times, please let us know. We also ask you to hold off on registering your swimmer until after the evaluation.

All other swimmers must be registered before practices start. You can register at:

    Swim Meets
Due to the restriction on large gatherings and KCSA’s guidance, traditional swim meets will not happen this summer. VPSU has agreed to support virtual meets. These will consist of each team competing at their own pool. Swimmers will be timed while competing against teammates. Like regular meets, times will be recorded in Swimtopia. As of now, Shark meets will occur during the regular practice schedule by age group. Due to the shortened season, we will have mini meets every Monday morning in July (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th). VPSU has not yet confirmed which teams we're swimming against. A plan for champs has not been devised either, but is on the calendar for 8/8.

    Volunteering
We rely on parents to volunteer at the meets. It’s really the only way we can have a successful swim season. Although the circumstances are very different this year, we are still counting on parents to step up. Once the meet schedule is finalized, a Sign-Up genius will be sent out before each meet seeking your help. Although in smaller numbers, we will still need timers, stroke and turn officials, scorers, etc. Please be advised that if you would like to watch your child compete during these mini meets, you will need to volunteer and help out.

    Social Activities
At this point, all team social activities will be delayed due to our size. A thought is to have informal gatherings for each age group. We will send out more information once practices are underway, but please reach out if you would like to be a social coordinator for your child’s age group. As restrictions loosen and the season progresses, we can hopefully add more fun activities and events.

    Swimsuits
We will not have new team suits this year. Instead, we will pick a new style to enjoy next summer. If you are interested in purchasing last year’s style you may find them here:

    That's it for now!

We are all committed to conducting a safe, fun (and memorable) season. And we hope to have your support along the way! You will be hearing from us frequently. An email outlining daily safety precautions will be sent out soon. We expect everyone to comply so our community continues to remain safe and healthy.

    Thank you,
    KM Swim Team Board
