    KM Sharks Summer Swim Team

    Swim Friends,

We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we try to formulate a safe plan for summer swim team. We are eager to land upon a system that keeps swimmers and the community safe and healthy. We also want to thank VPSU, especially our representative, Richard Hill, for being our team’s advocate at the meetings. VPSU continues to work very hard to find a solution for our summer swim league.

VPSU has tentatively scheduled practices to begin after June 22 and swim meets to start July 6. Also, on the schedule are the Summer Awards Meet (August 1) and Champs (August 9.)

Equally, KCSA is presently coordinating a plan for if and when Mounts Bay pool opens. They will be operating under the guidelines set forth by the Federal, State and local agencies. KCSA is also trying to secure insurance under these unique circumstances. Safety measures will include keeping a minimum of individuals on the pool deck at all times in order to abide by social distancing practices. Rules for the number of swimmers in each lane will be enforced too. Various plans are currently being put together that will include additional safety measures. Like years past, the established rules set forth by KCSA will be strictly enforced.

In order to move ahead and for us to plan accordingly, we need to send VPSU an accurate count of swimmers. Therefore, please let us know if your family intends to participate in swim team. Please respond to this email with your name and swimmer count by Friday, May 29.

Once we have an accurate count and VPSU secures insurance, registration will tentatively begin on Wednesday, June 17. Due to the circumstances, the turnaround time for registering will be very short.

We need everyone to understand that although swim team will look different this year, especially the format of the meets, we ask for your understanding. Many things will be evolving daily and with all the moving pieces, we need to be ready to adjust to these very fluid plans. As mentioned before, we will try our best to be as communicative as possible as information becomes available. It is our hope that things will become clearer as we move into June.

We appreciate your flexibility as we move forward, and hope we can all come together with the joint goal of producing a fun and very memorable swim season for our kids.

    Thank you,

The Kingsmill Sharks Swim Team Board
